Applications for the 2020 Indigenous Scholarship are now open!

Presented by the Facilities Management Association of Australia (FMA) and UNE Partnerships, the Indigenous Scholarship is open to FMA members of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage who work in the facilities management industry. If you meet this criteria, we strongly encourage you to apply!

This year, there will be two full scholarships awarded to the highest-ranked applicants, as determined by the independent judging panel. The scholarships will be presented at the 2020 FM Industry Awards.

To apply, eligible members must complete the Application Form and ask their manager to complete the Employment Nomination Form (both found on the FMA website). Given the demands of (often full-time) work and study, it is recommended that organisations commit to providing some level of support to assist applicants (if successful) in completing the Diploma. This includes nominating a mentor and allowing applicants to dedicate some portion of their work hours towards study.

The Diploma of FM is designed by industry professionals to give people who work in the industry formal recognition and further on-the-job experience. It is undertaken via online learning and must be completed within two years of enrolment.

“Indigenous people are an important part of the FM community,” said FMA Chief Executive Nicholas Burt. “We are pleased to offer this opportunity as part of our Indigenous Engagement Strategy, which aims to address the systemic disadvantage experienced by Australia’s First Peoples.”

“UNE Partnerships is committed to improving education and employment outcomes for Indigenous and regional Australians,” said UNE Partnerships CEO Ben Gilmore. “We are proud to partner with FMA to support the Indigenous Scholarship program and we are excited about the prospect of welcoming some incredible new students into the Diploma of FM.”

The scholarship covers the full course fees for the Diploma of Facilities Management ($5,164). The Application Process involves three parts:

  1. Application Form (including CV and two referees) – to be completed by the applicant
  2. Employer Nomination Form – to be completed by the manager
  3. Zoom interview – to be completed by short-listed applicants
