Uphold and support the values and principles of the public service (PSPETHC401A)
This unit covers the ethical conduct required of those in public service and the responsibility to encourage ethical conduct in others - colleagues or supervised staff. It includes contributing to an ethical public sector workplace and participating in ethical decision making.
Deliver and monitor a service to clients (PSPGOV402B)
This unit covers delivery and monitoring of services to new and existing clients. It includes identifying and defining client needs, delivering client services, monitoring and improving client service delivery and reviewing client services within the public sector.
Value diversity (PSPGOV408A)
This unit covers promotion of the value of workplace diversity and the contribution it makes to effective work practices, the generation of new ideas, and the organisation’s responsiveness to the community. It includes promoting the benefits of workplace diversity and contributing to diversity outcomes
Use advanced workplace communication strategies (PSPGOV412A)
This unit looks at the use of advanced communication skills and strategies for interacting with internal and external customers and clients. Interacting includes dealing with complex enquiries or complaints, giving directions, managing meetings and giving presentations in the workplace or to the public.
Apply government processes (PSPGOV422A)
This unit deals with the ‘machinery of government’ and provides a brief history of the development of government in Australia and the attendant public service structures. It also covers government protocols and appropriate processes in the development and application of policy and procedures.
Encourage compliance with legislation in the public sector (PSPLEGN401A)
This unit overviews the legislation which governs the public sector environment. It will concentrate on legislation governing public sector employment behaviour with reference to assisting others to comply with legislative requirements and how to act on non-compliance.
Support policy implementation (PSPPOL404A)
This unit covers the identification and application of policy in a public sector work environment. It addressed the three elements of competency - identify relevant policy, implement policy and monitor and report on policy implementation. It also looks at what a policy is, different types of policy, how it is developed, consultative processes and the role of the public sector in policy development.
Implement workplace safety procedures and programs (PSPOHS401B)
This unit covers implementation of the organisation’s occupational health and safety policies, procedures and programs by those with supervisory responsibilities, to meet occupational health and safety standards.
Develop work priorities (BSBCMN402A)
Participants will learn to develop the skills and knowledge required to effectively plan their own work schedules, to deal with multiple priorities, and to be responsive to workplace needs. Furthermore, the module deals with monitoring and obtaining feedback on their work performance, such as reaching goals and targets. Finally, it looks at being aware of professional development needs for individuals and teams.
Establish effective workplace relationships (BSBWOR401A)
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to collect, analyse and communicate information and to use that information to develop and maintain effective working relationships and networks, with particular regard to communication and representation.
Promote team effectiveness (BSBWOR402A)
Team effectiveness in meeting expected outcomes is achieved through good planning and good leadership. The concept of leadership is covered in some detail to develop the underpinning skills and knowledge that lead to team cohesion. It includes strategies for improving team performance and deals with issues such as communication, motivation, leadership styles and proactively working with the management of the organisation.
Implement continuous improvement (BSBMGT403A)
The focus is to learn how to determine various methods for capitalising on continuous improvement (CI) opportunities within organisations. Particular emphasis is placed on identifying CI potential for changes to current systems and processes by encouraging team participation. The module then covers the importance of monitoring the efforts of organisational CI implementation, and of seeking opportunities for further improvement.
Organise meetings (BSBADM405B)
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to organise meetings including making arrangements, liaising with participants, and developing and distributing meeting related documentation.
Show leadership in the workplace (BSBMGT401A)
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to work with teams and individuals, their standard of conduct and the initiative they take in influencing others. At this level, work will normally be carried out within routine and non routine methods and procedures which require the exercise of some discretion and judgement.
Develop teams and individuals (BSBLED401A)
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to determine individual and team development needs and to facilitate the development of the workgroup.
