UNE Partnerships offers a range of qualifications from the Public Sector Training Package suited to those employed in a variety of roles across the public sector.

Certificate III in Government


SUITABLE FOR:

gaining entry level competencies for a career in the public sector, with a particular focus on meeting the ethical and legislative requirements of public service while undertaking a diverse range of work activities which are general in nature.

Study Workload: 4 hours per week
Entry Requirements: Students need to be currently working in a public sector organisation in order to complete the required assessment tasks. No prior qualifications are necessary, although numeracy and literacy at a minimum Year 10 standard are required to demonstrate competencies.

Students are required to successfully complete 11 units including the following core units:

  • Work effectively in the organisation (PSPGOV301B)
  • Contribute to the workgroup activities (PSPGOV302B)
  • Work effectively with diversity (PSPGOV308B)
  • Use workplace communication strategies (PSPGOV312A)
  • Comply with legislation in the public sector (PSPLEGN301B)
  • Contribute to workplace safety (PSPOHS301A)
  • Address client needs (PSPGOV309A)
  • Electives - a range of electives are available on request
Employability Skills: Employability Skills for each qualification have been determined by the Department of Education, Employment and Workforce Relations (DEEWR). These are the recommended skills identified to gain employment, establish an enterprise, for career progression, to expand employment capability and to achieve individual potential and contribute to organisational strategic outcomes. Training Packages have been reviewed to ensure that Employability Skills feature in their units of competency.

SKILLS OUTCOME

At the successful completion of this course students will be able to :

  • Understand the values and principles of the public service
  • Develop and implement work priorities and workplace relationships within an operational plan
  • Ensure legislative compliance within the public sector.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)

Given that some participants may already be able to demonstrate their competence in some units, a recognition of prior learning assessment process is available to acknowledge skills and knowledge that may have been gained through formal and informal training and/or learning, work experience and life experience.
