2011 Trainee of the Year
Rebecca Mullen of Integral Health, Armidale was recently announced as UNE Partnerships 2011 Trainee of the Year. Rebecca was awarded the title due to her outstanding achievements and contributions made to her workplace during her traineeship.
Richard Doyle, Managing Director of UNE Partnerships presented Rebecca with the award and congratulated her on the high standard of work she had put in to her studies and traineeship.
Rebecca, a junior receptionist, completed her Certificate III in Business Administration (Medical) within nine months and found the course to be ‘an invaluable experience’. As she had no previous knowledge of the medical industry, Rebecca at first found it difficult working in a general practice. By undertaking a traineeship Rebecca’s knowledge and confidence improved, as “having something that helped me learn and become more familiar with a medical environment was invaluable,” she said.
As a result of her traineeship Rebecca has been able to implement and facilitate a number of new procedures into the practice and gained many new responsibilities, including the management of debtors and outstanding invoices and cleansing of the patient demographics. “Without this traineeship I have no doubt that I would not have been able to contribute so much to help the practice,” said Rebecca. “I think it’s a great thing for us as a practice”.
The full effects of Rebecca’s traineeship have been felt throughout her workplace. Her application for the award included outstanding references from her practice manager, a number of doctors and nurses within the clinic and a fellow receptionist. “We’re very proud of Rebecca,” said Dr Vicki Howell of Integral Health. “She’s an amazing asset to the business and brings a lot of innovation. She is very skilled on lots of levels, especially for someone so young”.
